Form One (Reception) prepares pupils for the more formal academic curriculum, and focuses on building real confidence in reading, writing and numeracy. the strong emphasis on basic skills is retained as children move through Forms Two (Yr. 1) and Transition (Yr. 2). At this point in their education the children are being extended beyond the National Curriculum; as is the case throughout their time at the Dower House. Teaching tends to be topic based and excellent use is made of places of interest, both locally and throughout the Midlands and Welsh Borders, |
ranging from seasonal walks of discovery in a nearby Country Park, to visits to the National Space Museum in Leicester. Lower school assessments In the summer term the pupils in Transition (Yr. 2) take the statutory assessment tests (SATs) for end of Key Stage 1. Our results are always significantly above the national average with over 80% achieving level 3 in both English and Mathematics. |
